I'm a hospitality management and technology expert living in Southwest Florida.
I spent over a decade in the hotel industry, during which time I wore nearly every hat in the business.
Hospitality is an incredible industry to learn the fundamentals of service, and my time in that field made me passionate about good service, effective teams, and creating raving fans.
It's also where I fell in love with data. I started out tracking guest post-stay surveys in an Excel spreadsheet - which department scored highest overall? Who had the highest month-over-month improvement?
That lead to engaging with client feedback directly - in the hospitality industry, that meant interacting with past and future guests thru sites like TripAdvisor. Thanking clients for their feedback, good or bad, as it's the main way you get better.
In the years that followed I worked extensively with a program called Revinate, which is a post-stay survey and analytics software. This led to NPS, Word Clouds, and of course visualizations.
In recent years I have worked with Tableau, Google's various tools, and of course Python.
My professional avocation is technology. I'm a gadget guy, and love learning how we can use tools to make our job or the guest experience better, without losing focus on what really matters by being caught up in the latest & greatest.
My front end experience covers HTML, CSS, JS and some React/Redux, it's tangential to what I do but I ripped out Wordpress from this site to keep a hand in. For Data Science I am a Python guy, with viz work in Tableau or tools like Matplotlib or Seaborn (gotta love Seaborn).
